Pinot Gris 'Last Pick' 2016

This wine was named 'Last Pick' after our contract growers Grants Road vineyard was sold and this was our last opportunity to have grapes from this lovely vineyard.

The very small bunches with tiny berries, were harvested late in the season and whole bunch pressed over an 8 hour period. After overnight settling, a portion (35%) was racked into Waitaki Chardonnay lees in the chardonnay barrels and the remainder fermented in a stainless steel tank. The fermentation was long and slow with the barrels eventually going dry and the wine retaining some RS. As a result of the long process and delayed sulphuring, the wine went through partial malolactic fermentation. The wine remained on fermentation lees for a year, increasing its noteworthy texture.
